Character Study | The Martian


He colonizes Mars all alone, by planting crops after getting accidentally deserted by his crew, during their mission in the red planet. He is left with limited supplies and no communication to contact his crew nor his home base. He is not only an astronaut, but a botanist, who put his knowledge to rescue. He derives water with leftover hydrogen and liquid oxygen. He develops bacteria with his organic waste and grows food in the habitat, thus makes Mars habitable in the known human history. He solves problems one after another, and the main problem of establishing communication with the home base by retrieving an old rover sent to Mars in the 90s. Eventually, with guidance from Planet Earth, he undertakes an insurmountable challenge risking his life, becoming the fastest man in space travel with almost no safety, gets rescued by his crew.
