Deep Impact | Indiana Jones

Steven Spielberg apparently needed to direct James Bond but the producers allegedly denied giving the opportunity to Spielberg. Steven's friend the creator of Star Wars, came to know about it. And, he told Spielberg that he has conceptualized an adventurous and globetrotting character with specific interests in archeological finds of the history and the myth. Consequently, Indiana Jones came into existence.

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) was released multiple times in Madurai Mappillai Vinayagar and Manicka Vinayagar theatres. Our father took us to these theatres every time, "Raiders" was released. Perhaps, that was the very first time, I got to encounter the Amazon jungle, an amphibian flight, a university in North America, Nazi Germans, Egypt and it's dessert, the Ark and its biblical significance. Now, you can imagine, how much wisdom this film has imparted us, perhaps an encyclopedia.

Henry Jones Sr | A Recall

The relationship between Henry Jones Sr and Indiana Jones is arguably the best ever father and son duo in the history of Hollywood. Thanks to George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford and most importantly Sir Sean Connery.
The characterization of Henry Jones Sr being humours yet clever is best exemplified by Sean Connery's seamless performance. In the late 80s, our father Thangapandian took us (Pandians) to Madurai Mappillai Vinayagar theatre to watch "Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade". We were exhilarated by the adventure and the history of Indiana Jones especially of the seaquences in the Nazi Germany and Adolf Hitler. Perhaps, that's was one of the first moments I was introduced to Adolf Hitler in a film.

I vividly remember asking my father who's the father of Indiana Jones and he looks like James Bond. Indeed, then we identified James Bond 007 with Sean Connery. Not only my father's generation did but we who were born in the 80s also did. Because that's when Madurai Mappillai Vinayagar and Manicka Vinayagar theatres rereleased the James Bond films which were released at Madurai Paramewari theatre (Karimedu) back in 60s and 70s.

Sean Connery was synonymous with Ian Fleming's James Bond.

Original Vintage Poster with the theatrical list of THX exhibition:
Remember, if my memory serves me correct, the only theatres in Madurai, which were THX certified for 3 years in row from 1992 - 1995 were Madurai Mappillai Vinayagar and Manicka Vinayagar theatres. I vividly remember the "THX Certified" logo displayed on the entry doors of the first class tickets, which were Rs 15 and Rs 12 respectively.
