Beetle: Adolf Hitler's People's car

#Beetle to be discontinued:
Did you know that #AdolfHitler originally conceived #Volkswagen 'Beetle' as the 'People's Car' of Third Reich?
Hitler needed a car that can take it's people of Nazi Germany to the length and breadth of the country. Therefore, he named 'Beetle' the people's car because of its attributes - compact and spacious. Before his plans materialized, the second world war broke. What happened next is history.
Today, an announcement came that Volkswagen has decided to discontinue the production of its iconic car 'Beetle' by 2019. The decision is attributed to change in consumer preference to SUV (Sports Utility Vehicles) and MUV (Multi Utility Vehicles) variants.
This post is neither political nor does it endorse Nazism. It is solely shared for historical and educational purposes.

I'm interested in alternate history especially the second world war. That's how my research began.
I have been watching a documentary series 'The secrets of Third Reich' and 'Hitler's Empire: The Post War Plan'. They are insightful particularly for someone like me who is an aspiring second world war military historian.
I would also recommend you to watch the television series 'The Man in The High Castle'. It was written by prolific science fiction author Philip K. Dick. This series is a mind bending alternate history of the second world war.
