Character Study: "Yippee ki-yay motherfucker!"

Character Study: "Yippee ki-yay motherfucker!"

He is invariably pushed to the verge of defeat, but he doesn't give up without making a collateral damage. The corporation his wife works for, is taken over control by terrorists. Today, he is exhausted after travelling 3000 miles to meet his wife and family for Christmas. Unknowingly, he visits the 30 storey corporation to meet his wife and incidentally gets separated from the hostages.

He is an adamant cop, whose strength is fighting alone against any odds. He is the only one in the building with just a gun, against twelve terrorists with advanced ammunition. He has the capacity to drive people crazy by doing things the old fashioned way, which is he puts on a direct one to one fight, no matter how tough the opponent is.

He gets beaten or shot to the point of death, but he makes one right move eventually, taking down his enemies. But, it doesn't happen without him putting a die hard fight

This character study is not extensive as this isn't the only time John McClane has to encounter an insurmountable challenge of fighting an army all alone. It will be continued.

"Die Hard" was released 32 years ago on 12th July, 1988.

It is in our blood that we prefer action films (not the ones made now, mostly with computer generated images and not with superior practical effects) of 80s and 90s (the golden period of action cinema with human emotions). Our grandfather Bhavathevar took his son Thangapandian to English language speaking action films screened in the erstwhile theatres of Madurai (Parameswari - Bond films; Regal - Action and drama). My father Thangapandian took us (my brother and me) to English language speaking films to Madurai Mappillai Vinayagar and Manicka Vinayagar theatres, which I consider them to be my temples. Because that's where I got enlightened, if I may say so. When the internet didn't come into existence nor was it ubiquitous, those theatres were our window to the world. The time period was 1985 to 2005.

Why am I giving this background?
Because that's how I watched the critically acclaimed the first installment of Die Hard franchise at  Madurai Mappillai Vinayagar theatre. The first two parts were released at Mappillai Vinayagar, and third part was released at Manicka Vinayagar along with The Mask at Mappillai vinayagar. Many went to Mask. But we as a die - hard fans of ' Die - Hard ' series watched ' Die - Hard with vengeance ' repeatedly at Manicka vinayagar theatre.

Authored by Balaji Thangapandian aka #BT - a spacefarer, who is also curious about film-making, connectivity technologies and military history.
